About Scalliwag Toys

Scalliwag Toys opened in 1985, in a tiny storefront at 215 Front Street, Belleville. The store initially carried quality children’s products, largely manufactured in Europe, such as wooden trains, jigsaw puzzles, Playmobil, and Lego.

It’s always sunny at Scalliwag Toys.

Over the years, the store moved twice, each time to a larger space. The first move was across the street to the old Walker Hardware building at 250 Front Street, which almost doubled the floor space; while the second, in 1995, took the store north on Front Street to its current location at the intersection of Front and Victoria Avenue.

The inventory, as well as the location, has changed over the past thirty-odd years. From its initial focus on classic toys, Scalliwag’s product mix has moved to include a focus on board games, miniatures games like Warhammer, role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, social games such as crokinole and Tock, and collectible card games such as Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokémon.  Events both casual and sanctioned are held throughout the week, but there is almost always space for an impromptu game if players so choose.
